Prep guide for newborn baby photo sessions
The most important part of preparing your newborn baby for their photo shoot is that you aim to keep your baby awake for one to two hours prior to your session if possible.
Ideally give your baby a bath, let them kick around and then give them a full feed just before coming to your session. This way your baby should be nice and sleepy for the photo shoot. They will have had time to digest their milk and bring up any wind they may have. You can give them a top up feed on arrival at the studio and of course as and when necessary throughout the shoot. The session is very relaxed and we work according to your baby's needs. We find giving your baby a full feed before you arrive really does help us to get as many images as possible for you during your session time as they are arrive not too hungry having digested all their milk.
Dress your baby in clothes that do not need to be removed over the head as this can disturb them when you are undressing them so avoid putting them in a bottom opening vest. A Baby grow with front opening buttons is perfect without having a vest on underneath.
If you are bottle feeding please bring extra milk and bottles as your baby may feed a little more than usual during the session due to the warmth in the studio and unfamiliar settings for them.
If you are breast feeding please avoid drinks with caffeine. This is of utmost importance. Please also avoid eating any spicy foods the day before the session too.
We photograph babies in specifically designed newborn outfits & wraps so you don’t need to worry about bringing baby clothes to the studio. We will discuss with you before the shoot any colours that you wish us to consider for the session. However you may bring upto 2 outfits if you wish , and if there's enough time we will do our best to get those outfits done too.
Parents are more than welcome to have photos taken with their babies if they'd like to on the day
The studio will be warm for your baby’s comfort so we advise you to dress in layers for your own comfort too. You are welcome to bring drinks and snacks to the studio if you like as the session usually lasts about 2 1/2 hours
If your baby has a dummy please bring it to the session, it can help your baby to get to sleep if they are unsettled ensuring that we get a lovely gallery of images for you.
Please also bring all of your usual nappy bag items & plenty of extra milk for top up feeds so we can get the cute sleepy photos.
Taking photos on your mobile phone during the photoshoot is not permitted.
